21st March, 2009, time around 6:00 p.m.,
Location : ICU, Meerut Kidney Hospital, Meerut
Kidneys had stopped working and was on dialysis, had jaundice because liver was affected, was pneumatic with lungs filled with some fluid. Suddenly the breath started choking with very high fever and very high BP. There were some monitors with some readings on it. Usually wet towels brought down those readings to the normal but that day three guys were continuously putting wet towels on the body and still could not bring down the readings by a single unit. There was an oxygen mask on face. The doctor had already said that the guy could not be saved. Parents were crying and shouting on the hospital administration that they want the guy to be shifted to Apollo Hospital, New Delhi. He got the feeling for the first time that it was the end for him.
The guy signaled to his mother that he wants the mask off his face but the mother was confused. May be it was his last wish or may be the mask could help him to live more. She replied with wet eyes "tere bhale ke liye hi hai na?"
Finally the decision was taken that the guy will be shifted to the Apolo. The family had a history with one one of the guy's cousin getting expired while taking him to Apollo from Meerut in a similar condition. The relatives present there actually started informing the others of the situation as they had lost the hope. Doctors were confused if the guy should be provided with ventilation on the way to Delhi or not as his breath was choking. Meanwhile the guy had lost all the senses and did not know what all was going around him. The docs gave the guy anesthesia to fit some tubes in his neck to provide ventilation and had closed the doors so that no family member could come in. The guy was screaming high even when he was given anesthesia and the parents were knocking the doors hard. Do not know what happened but the doctors could not fit the tubes and took the decision of shifting the guy to Apollo on oxygen mask only.
Finally around 8:00 p.m., left the hospital in Meerut. At around 8:30,on the way to delhi in ambulance, the guy got some sense. His father and jija ji were sitting besides him with his father holding his hands. His mother and sister were sitting on the front seats and were continuously asking about his condition. Reached the Apollo, New Delhi at around 10-10:30 p.m. With this ended the most scaryand unforgettable journey, though the bad time was not yet ove.
Discharged from there on April 9th but had lost his grandfather in the meantime who died of a heart attack possibly because of his condition only. Few says it was a rebirth for him.
